Overview
Ham's F-12 Nutrient Mixture (F-12) is a nutrient-rich basal medium developed to support mammalian cells under low-serum and serum-free conditions. Compared with earlier media such as MEM, it contains a broader range of amino acids, vitamins, trace elements, and specialized nutrients, making it particularly suitable for epithelial cells, endocrine cells, CHO cells, and chemically defined culture systems.
F-12 is also one of the two parent media used to formulate DMEM/F-12, one of the most widely used basal media for stem cell and neural cell culture.
